If the proposed development will have unavoidable impacts to either the wetland or the wetland buffers mitigation will be required to offset the impacts to the wetlands or the wetland buffers.
Wetland compensatory mitigation is one of the last steps in the mitigation sequence where unavoidable impacts to wetland functions are offset by creating, restoring, enhancing, or preserving other wetlands.
Depending on the extent of impact in addition to local government review and approval other regulatory agencies may be involved in the permitting process.
